Cheap flair skirt

2005-06-18
I saw this deliciously gaudy fabric at Wal-mart the other night and had to pick it up. It was $2.00 a yard and it's a polyester blend of some sort.

I'd been looking for cool summery clothes and found these beautiful flair skirts...in the skinny girl section. They were $14.00 and I loved them, but though the body of the skirt would have fit me, the waist wouldn't have.

I decided that I'd make my own and here's the finished product:

It's hard to see, but it's quite flair-y. I bought five yards, but only used about two and a half. I had planned on putting elastic in the band, but it turned out I didn't need to. I just added a band to it, hemmed it, and there you go.

I used a panel from an old old old skirt I'd loved as a pattern, and this is about what it looked like.

I just cut four, sewed them, and you know the rest.

Easy, fun, quick, and now I've got something cool and ugly to wear *grin*.
