Long entry, one FO
Enough whining about weather though. I came here to talk about crafts!
I've actually only finished one project since my last entry, but I've got a lot of works in progress.
I finished the Mystery knit-along from Dancin' Needles last night. It turns out that it's a frog dishcloth (or washcloth, whichever) It turned out really adorable, and I'm glad that I used the green that was suggested instead of another color. A purple frog wouldn't be too bad though *grin*
I'd heard what twisted stitches were, but I'd never had them, didn't know what they really looked like and had no idea how to fix them. Had I browsed through my Stitch N Bitch, I would have, but I didn't think to.
Anyway, there was a typo in the 19th row of the pattern, and I'd already finished that row by the time it was corrected. I pulled out my work to that row, and started again. What I didn't realize was that stitches are placed on the needle in a specific way, and that when I put them back on, they were all facing the wrong way! I didn't catch it until I was several rows past it, and by that time I didn't want to bother with it. I learned my lesson though, and know what to watch out for if it happens again!
I've got several other projects in the works and I'm hoping to get at least one of them finished by the end of the week! I've finished Paul's Slytherin scarf, and so I've been working on Jenn's Gryffindor scarf. I'm on row 14, so I still have five rows to do. If I keep at it, I should have it finished in the next day or two, and can seam it and do the fringe. Jenn says she doesn't care if I get it done by the time of the book release, but I told her ages ago that I would, and I'd like to keep to my word.
I'm also working on a dog sweater for my chihuahua Cordova. I know I just finished bitching about how hot it is, but it isn't for right now. I thought if I started now, I'd be able to get several done by the time the colder weather kicked in. I've got the schematics from "Cowl n Howl" in the Stitch N Bitch Handbook. It's a custom fit, which rocks, and it's really an easy pattern. The neck and the legs are done with double pointed needles, but I'm going to give them my best try. If all else fails, there's no reason why I can't crochet them on. I just don't want to give up on the dpns before I try. There should be at least half a skein of yarn left when I'm finished, so I'd like to take the schematics and crochet him one as well. I wanted to mention that I picked the most gawd awful colors, but they'll look adorable on him! I'm using RH Banana Berry for two of them (It's a teal, blue, green, and yellow mix) that looks hideous on the skein, but quite pretty knit, and I picked a verigated called Mexicana for the other two. (That one has all the colors of the rainbow, plus black) I thought they'd stand out, and besides, they're colors I would never be brave enough to make anything else out of. If these all work out, my plan is to make him a black one with a great big tennis ball (His drug of choice) on the back. It'll be adorable.
Lessee...what else?
I'm still working on my two needle socks, though I haven't picked them up at all this week. I'd really like to get everything out of the way so I can concentrate on them, but I've got too much going right now.
I'm also doing a long term knit-along at Dancin' Needles. It lasts for two months. Before it started, we were all asked to come up with a free online pattern for something bigger, like a blanket, lap robe, or other large project. I chose the Bear Claw throw and it won the vote! It's a beautiful throw blanket and it's done in a lacy pattern...something that I'm still very new to. I have the prettiest light blue (Country blue I think?) Caron Simply Soft. I'd bought five skeins of it on a whim, and this project called out for me to use it. I'm only 12 rows in to it, but I can already see the pattern starting to emerge and I'm really excited about doing my first large knit project. Unless I need a last minute Christmas gift, this baby is mine!
I could go on and on, but really, there's not much more I can say that I haven't already said. Well, not really true. I admit that I'm feeling a little bit guilty for not doing any crochet as of late. It was the craft that got me started in learning to read patterns and I feel like I've abandoned it. I haven't really, but I haven't done any crochet in at least a month now. My posts at Crochetville are lacking, and I feel like I'm not participating enough. It's not so much that I feel guilty about not oohing and ahhing everyone's work, it's just that I used to post several times a week on Show & Tell, and the last thing I did were coasters. Ah well...once the newness of knitting wears off, I'll start doing it again.
Now I'm finished jawin'!
